Umngi River

Umngi River originates in the West Khasi Hills and is 87 km long and irrigates an area of about 570 sq km.

The government has proposed to build a reservoir at about 31 km downstream of the river Umngi. According to this scheme, the waters of the river can be utilized to support a huge hydro-electric project.

After its traverse through the state of Meghalaya, the Umngi finally enters into Bangladesh.
