Twin Ghats

Twin Ghats or Joraghat is the place where Kashem Mallik, a Moghul ruler at Chinsurah, constructed a gigantic building. The building was so built that its stairs touched the sacred Ganges. Mahatma Gandhi rested here for two days during a yajna for spinning wheels. It is next to Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s house. The ghat is partitioned into two. The northern side was meant for ladies. The place can be approached from Chinsurah, 50 km from Kolkata. The nearest railway stations are Chinsurah and Hooghly. Ferry services are also available across the Ganges to reach this place.
