Tula Utsavam is a month-long festival celebrated by the people of Mayiladuthurai
(Mayuram} in the month of Iyppasi (Thula month), on the banks of the
. The last day of the month is observed as Kadaimugam, which is believed to be the day on which river-goddesses Ganga, Yamuna and
take a holy dip in the Cauvery to get rid of their sins and rejuvenate themselves so that they can accept sins from pilgrims who take a holy dip in those rivers. There is a car festival held a day before when the cars from the Vallalar temple, Big temple and Ranganatha temple go around in their car streets. The town wears a festive look on these days, seasonal shops open up and there is widespread celebrations.
