Trakthogk Monastery




Trakthogk Monastery is situated near Sakti Village in Leh District of Jammu and Kashmir. The monastery belongs to the oldest order of Buddhism, the Nying-ma-pa. It is believed that the Tantric Buddha, Padmasambhava, meditated here on his way to Tibet.

Trakthogk Monastery is famous for its wall paintings, which are covered with black soot and are hardly discernible.
