The tomb of Akbar lies in the center of a large garden at Sikandra. Akbar started its construction and was completed by his son, Jahangir, who extensively modified the original plans.
The building has three-storey minarets exhibiting the transition in Mughal style from 16th century sandstone to 17th century white marble.
