Shiva Temple is situated at Tiruvottiyur, about 8 km south of Chennai
, in Tamil Nadu
. The presiding deity here is Lord Shiva
. The temple campus houses the ‘Panchabhootha Sthala’ lingas, such as, Aakasalinga, Tejolinga and Jalalinga.
The wall of the temple is adorned with a beautiful figure of Ekapadeswar, an odd representation of Lord Shiva. The temple has a Sahasralinga -a tall, huge, black, granite Shivling.
The images of the famous saints including Pattinathar - a reputed Tamil ascetic-poet, and Appar are installed in the niches. There is also a samadhi for Pattinathar.
Chennai Central Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
