Tiruvaali and Tirunagari Temple, one of the sacred
108 Divya Desams, lies in the
Nagapattinam District of
Tamil Nadu. Though Thiruvaali and Thirunagari are about 5 km away, these two are regarded as a single Divya Desam.
Tiruvaali temple enshrines Lakshmi Narasimhar, also known as VayalalliManavalan, in a seating posture facing the east.
Utsava Murti here is Tiruvaali Nagarallan and Taayar is Amritha Kadavalli. Tirunagari temple enshrines the idol of Vedarajan in a seated posture facing the west. Taayar here is Amrithavalli and Utsava Murti is Kalyana Ranganatha.
It is believed that, Thirumangai Alwar, the youngest and the last of the twelve Alwars, has glorified these two temples in his hymns in a total of 41 verses. Tirunagari is said to be the birthplace of Thirumangai Alwar. Thirumangai Alwar is enshrined here in a separate sanctum. He is depicted as a hunter; out of the five Narasimha images that he worshipped, two images are also seen here.
Brahmotsavam, celebrated annually in the month of Pankuni (March-April), is a major draw. The Tirumangaialwar Mangalasasana Utsavam, celebrated in the Tamil month of Thai, draws a large number of people from far and near. A grand procession of the image of Thirumangai Alwar also takes place here.
Tiruvaali and Tirunagari are located on the Sirkazhi -Tiruvengadu road and is about 9 km south east of
Sirkazhi Railway Station.
