Tirupati Dolls




Tirupati is famous for its dolls, especially the dampati (man-woman) dolls. Tiruchanoor village near Tirupati in Chittoor District, produces a variety of dolls including religious figures that are seen in temple sculptures. These dolls are made of red sandal wood. Dampati doll is an important part of Kollu, a festival similar to Dussehra. On the festive occasion the dolls are dressed in beautiful fabrics or paper and decorated with jewelry. Doll show is arranged on Makara Sankranti.
