Tirunandipura Vinnagaram

Tirunandipura Vinnagaram, one of the 108 Divya Desams, is located at Nandipura Vinnagaram near Kumbakonam.

The temple has huge walls, a west-facing sanctum and a Rajagopuram. The Moolavar (main deity) is Jagannathan or Vinnagara Perumaal (Lord Vishnu) installed in a seated posture facing west. Goddess Shenbagavalli is also worshipped here.

An idol of Adhikaara Nandi is enshrined on the left side of the temple. Legend is that Nandi had done penance here to seek atonement of insulting the Dwarapalakas of Vishnu. It is also believed by the local populace that, Lord Vishnu originally faced the east, but turned west to see the generous sight of King Sibi giving his flesh for the sake of justice.
