Tirukkolakka Shabdapureesar Temple

Tirukkolakka Shabdapureesar Temple, also known as Taalam Udaiyar Kovil, is an ancient shrine situated at Tirukkolakka, in Nagapattinam District of Tamil Nadu. Located in the vicinity of Sirkazhi, the place is considered as the 15th of the Tevara Stalangal situated to the north of the Cauvery River in the Chola region of the state.

Tirukkolakka Shabdapureesar Temple enshrines Lord Shiva as the presiding deity in the form of Shabdapureesar. The goddess here is known as Osai Kodutta Nayaki. This small shrine, covering about three fourth of an acre, has two prakarams. In front of the temple lies the sacred tank Surya Teertham.

It is believed that Kanva Rishi had worshipped Lord Shiva here.

Tirumulaippaal Utsavam, in the Tamil month of Chithirai (April-May), is a major festival celebrated here amid much pomp and merriment. Sambandar is said to have been blessed with a pair of golden cymbals by Shiva and poetic abilities by Goddess Parvati. The festival is in remembrance of this incident. During the festival an image of Sambandar is brought in procession to the temple from the Bhramapureeswarar Temple at Sirkazhi.

Sirkazhi Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
