Thirunakkara Mahadeva Temple




Thirunakkara Mahadeva Temple is a highly revered shrine located in the heart of Kottayam, Kerala. Built by Thekkumkoor Maharaja, this beautiful temple dates back to 500 years ago.

The presiding deity here is Lord Shiva. The temple is known for its South Indian style of architecture. The Koothambalam of the temple is considered as the best in the state. The walls of the temples are decorated with beautiful paintings, which are scenes from the Hindu epics.

Three big festivals are held annually at the temple. Phalguna Utsav, the important festival, is celebrated in the third week of March. Other two are held during Thulam (October-November) and Mithunam (June-July).

Kottayam Railway Station and Kottayam Bus Station are the nearest access points.
