Thirunaagai temple is situated in Thanjavur District
of Tamil Nadu
, near Nagapattinam railway station. The main deity of the temple is Lord Neelamega (Vishnu
). The idol is seen in a standing position facing the east. He holds a weapon known as ‘gadhayudham’ in his hand.
The temple has a very big gopuram
and contains 15 vimanas
(shrines). The shrines are dedicated to the gods Govindaraja, Ranganatha, Pachivanna, Pavalavanna, Varadharaja, Ram
, Srinivasa, Vaikundanatha, Aandal, Aanchaneya
Inside the shrine dedicated to Lord Ranganatha, there is a bronze idol of Lord Narashima with eight hands.
