Thirumoolanather Temple



Thirumoolanather Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located at Poovalur in Tiruchirapalli District.

It is said that Lord Brahma, Lord Indra, Manmathan (God of love), Lord Agni and Chandrasudan worshipped this God to attain mukthi. The Goddess is called Kunkuma Sundari. The temple faces east and has four prakaras. There is a sub-shrine for Vinayakar (Lord Ganesh).

Panguni River flows nearly and the temple tree is Vilvam. Tamil New Year (April), Chitra Pournami (April-May), Masi Magam (Feb-March), Panguni Uthiram (March-April), Thaipusam (Jan-Feb), and Vinayaka Chaturthi (September) are the festivals celebrated here.
