Thirugnana Sambandar Temple

Thirugnana Sambandar Temple is located Thirumetrali Street, in Pillaiyar Palayam, Kanchipuram. This small shrine is dedicated to Thirugnana Sambandar, a great devotee of Lord Shiva. Thirugnana Sambandar is installed in a standing posture before Lord Shiva with his hands joined together, praying to the lord. The idol of Lord Vishnu can also be seen here.

Legend has it that Lord Vishnu, who wished to be transformed into the form of an idol, was told by Lord Shiva to remain there until Thirugnana Sambandar comes. Shiva also told Lord Vishnu that only after hearing the songs being sung by the saint he (Vishnu) would be transformed into an idol according to his wish.
