Thiravellattu Maholsavam

Thiravellattu Maholsavam is the main festival of Bhagvan Chathan Swami, at Karanayil Madom. The perumannans have an important role to play during this celebration. They draw the ‘Roopakalam’, considered to be the supreme soul of the lord, on the floor using different powders. Near to this they also sketch godmother Koolivaga. Kalashabhishekam is performed in the early morning of this festival. During the festival panchavadyam and musical instruments like chenda, thakil and ezhara are played.

The spectacular procession of the lord is the most beautiful sight of this festival. The idol is decorated with different garlands. The belief is that the problems of the devotees are heard and solved by Shri Vishnu Maya Chathan Swami, and all the evil spirits are overpowered by him and handed over to ‘Malanayadi Moorthi.'
