Thatakanthapuram

Thatakanthapuram, also called Thattathimoolai, is 5 km south of Nannilam in Thanjavur District. It lies on the banks of Vallappar River and is 3 km west of Srivanchium, the abode of Lord Shiva.

Legend has it that when Thataka (a demoness) was chased by Lord Ram, she hid herself here but the prince killed her. It is also said that Goddess Visalakshi along with Lord Viswanatha were on the way to Srivanchium to take bath in the holy tank, Gupta Ganga Theertham. They took rest in Thattathimoolai.

This beautiful village has a Shiva temple. On the west side of the village is a shrine for Lord Varadaraja with his consorts Sreedevi and Bhoodevi.
