Thanjaoor Ammaveedu




Thanjaoor Ammaveedu is a beautiful wooden building constructed by Swathi Thirunal for Sugandha Valli, the Maharaja’s mistress. The building located at Arat Road, Perunthanni opposite Arumana Amma Veedu in Thiruvananthapuram has two courtyards and the entire structure is characterised by elaborate wood carvings. Thanjaoor Ammaveedu, once the place of music and dance, exists even today as a store house of mysteries and stories.

This is a " Panthrandu Kettu" with three "Anganams".The new double storyed building next to the road was constructed by Maharaja Srimoolam Thirunal for his first son Nagarcoil Srinarayanan Tampi. The premises is owened by Mitra Nihethan with the head office at Vellanadu

Trivandrum International Airport is the nearest airport and Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station lying in the heart of the city is the closest railway station.
