Tarao is a minor tribal group in the
Chandel District of
Manipur. They are identified as Kuki in earlier ethnographic studies, but they are identified as Nagas now. Their language is Taraotrong and they use Meiteilon while speaking with others. Taraos cultivate banana, lemon, pineapple and papaya. Their land is considered to be the driest place in Manipur.
