Tapkeshwar



Tapkeshwar is in Dehradun District of Uttaranchal. It rests on the eastern bank of the Tons River. Tapkeshwar is famous by the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple and the Tapkeshwar Fair. This place is referred as Deveshwara in Skanda Purana. According to the Mahabharata, Drona lived here and Aswathama was born here. Myth is that Tapkeshwar got its name from the name which was used by Aswathama to pray to Lord Shiva.

Tapkeshwar is well linked with Dehradun (5 km) by city bus and three wheelers. Ideal time to visit here is during the Shivratri day.

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport (29 km). Kotdwar Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
