Tanuku

Taraka Pura



Tanuku is a historical town located about 60 km from Narsapur in West Godavari District. This is the first town in Andhra Pradesh to acheive total literacy. Popularly known as Taraka Pura, this place is believed to have been ruled by King Tarakasena. Butta Bommalu, a traditional folk dance, is prevalent here. Someshwara Temple and Yellaramma Temple are the major attractions. The famous Shri Rameshwara Swamy Temple is accessible within 30 km from Tanuku. Regular bus services are available from Eluru, Palakollu and Narsapur. Tanuku has its own railway station.
