Tanda




Tanda is an ancient town in Ambedkarnagar District of Uttar Pradesh. It is around 200 km from Lucknow.

Situated on the banks of river Ghaghra, it was a cultural and learning center in north India during the 15th century. It is dotted with numerous Islamic educational centers (Madrasas). The holy shrine of Sheikh Ashraf Jahangir Simnani is located on the outskirts of the town.

Tanda is also an industrial area and the major industry being that of power looms. Other industries include textiles and cement. The textile industry is famous for hand weaved Jamdani, Malmal, sarees and other varieties of hand printed textiles. Beside these industries, it has a thermal power generation station on the Tanda-Faizabad Road.

Tanda is 20 km from Akbarpur, the district headquarters. Amausi Airport is the nearest airport. Akbarpur Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
