Suwata is a festival of women mainly celebrated in the
Panna District of
Madhya Pradesh. On this occasion, the performers prepare a mini clay platform attached to the wall of their house. Steps are constructed on the three sides of the platform. An idol of a demon is placed on the platform. Small idols of
Lord Shiva and
Goddess Parvati are placed on its head. Images of sun and moon, representing two brothers, are also drawn on the wall. Offerings of flowers and grass blades are made to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Songs praising Goddess Gouri (Parvati) are sung while worshipping the deities.
