Suraj Parkash Granth

Suraj Parkash Granth is a revered book of the Sikh community. It contains the most comprehensive details of Sikh history. It was written by a renowned poet, Santokh Singh, nearly 100 years after the establishment of the Sikh kingdom by Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th guru of the Sikhs. Text from Suraj Parkash Granth is read out during religious occasions and this is called 'Katha'. Reading of Katha is considered mandatory for Sikhs, since it gives them a glimpse of their history and the sacrifices and pain endured by their forefathers to establish the religion.

It is believed that some parts of the original Suraj Parkash Granth have been tampered with. Owing to this reason, an edited version of the text is used for Katha.
