Sunder Mahal is a small palace situated at
Orchha in the
Tikamgarh District of
Madhya Pradesh. Though this tawny-colored palace is in ruins today, it is still a place of pilgrimage for Muslims. It was constructed by Prince Dhurbhajan, son of Raja Jhujhar Singh, who ruled over Orchha from 1627-35. Dhurjban embraced Islam following his wedding a Muslim girl from Delhi. His later years were spent in Sunder Mahal in prayer and meditation. Eventually, he came to be revered as a saint.
