Sukavaneswarar Temple is an ancient temple located at Salem. In K ali Yuga, sage Suka worshipped Lord Shiva here to free himself from Brahma's curse which would turn him into a parrot. Hence the name 'Sukavaneswara'. There are many inscriptions dating back to the pre-Christian era. The idols of the temple are Sukavaneswarar and Swarnambika. Belief is that Sukavaneswarar is being worshipped here for the last four yugas.
