Sugreeva

Sugreeva, the king of monkey clan, was a legendary character in the great Indian epic Ramayana. The role of Sugreeva starts after the kidnapping of Sita - the wife of Lord Ram. Ram and Lakshman were invited to the camp by Sugreeva and his friends to find a solution for rescuing Sita. Sugreeva has an elder brother named Bali, who was the king of Kishkindha. During the fight of Bali and demon Mayavi in a cave, Bali told Sugreeva to remain out side the cave for fifteen days until he returned victoriously. As the time elapsed, Sugreeva believed that Bali was killed by the demon. So he ran away to the kingdom and declared himself as the king. Bali reached back to Kishkindha after a few months. Sugreeva hide on Rishyamuk Mountains as he was defeated by Bali. Sugreeva told the story to Ram and with his help Sugreeva challenged Bali. During the war Bali was killed by Lord Ram, and Sugreeva returned as the king of Kishkindha. http://www.boloji.com/hinduism/ramayana/15.htm http://www.geocities.com/neovedanta/ramayana14.html http://www.freeindia.org/biographies/greatdevotees/hanumantha/page3.htm
