St Paul’s Cathedral

Set within huge grounds housing several ancient trees, St Paul’s Cathedral is the largest cathedral in Kolkata and is next to the Birla Planetarium. The first Anglican cathedral of India, St. Paul's Cathedral was built between 1839 and 1847 in Gothic style with stained glass windows and two Florentine frescoes. Exquisite carved wooden pews and chairs make the main cathedral beautiful. A small meditation spot on the grounds is available for the devotees.

The cathedral is more than 60 metres high, nearly 80 metres long and 25 metres wide, with the distinction of displaying the first stained glass window in the city. There are many paintings displaying biblical scenes and a small library of antiquarian books.
