Sri Vittal Temple




Sri Vittal Temple is a 15th century old temple devoted to Lord Vittal. It is situated at Kundapura, a coastal taluk in Udupi District of Karnataka. As per the copper plate collected by the endowment board, this temple was patronized by the queen Keladi Chennamma. A fair Deepotsavam is the main attraction, which is celebrated here with all grandeur and gaiety. Other festivities celebrated in the temple include Ashada Ekadashi, Nagara Panchami, Upakarma, Sri Krishnashtami, Ganeshotsava, Anantha Chaturdashi, Jagara Puja, Sharada Puja, Uthana Dwadashi (Tulasi Pooja), Prathista anniversary, Vasantha Puja, Ugadi.

Udupi, situated 36 km away from Kundapura, is the nearest railway station and the nearest airport is at Mangalore. Some of the important tourist destinations around Kundapur are Trasi, Anegudde, Basrur, Koteswara temple, Hattiangadi and Kamalashile.
