Sri Varada Gopalaswamy Temple

Sri Varada Gopalaswamy Temple is a beautiful shrine, located at Kovvur, in West Godavari District. Dedicated to Lord Gopalaswamy, the shrine is associated with the episode of Vogu – the cow – which died as a result of being driven out by the sages. The temple is believed to have been erected by these saints as per the advice of Lord Gopalaswamy, to redeem from the sin.

The temple is noted for its architectural grandeur, comprising exquisite prakaras and paneled wall adorned with fine sculptural images. It also enshrines the rare images of deities such as Lord Dasanjenaya and Lord Garuda. Besides, the archamurti image flanked by Satyabhama and Rukmini is a feast to eyes.

Devotees, in large number, throng here during annual Kalyanotsav Festival which falls during Vaisakha. Festivals such as Mukkoti and Magha Suddha Ekadashi are also celebrated here with much pomp and splendor.
