Sri Senthil Andavar Temple




Sri Senthil Andavar Temple, also known as Tirchendur Temple, is a highly revered pilgrim center located at Tiruchendur, in Tuticorin District of Tamil Nadu. It is the second Aarupadai Veedu (the six highly revered shrines of Muruga) of Lord Muruga. Sri Senthil Andavar Temple boasts a magnificent Rajagopuram; this towering structure measures to a height of over 130 ft and is made up of nine tiers.

Legend has it that Lord Muruga worshipped Lord Shiva in Tiruchendur after destroying the demon Surapadman. It is said that saint poet Nakkerar had praised Lord Senthil Andavar in his songs.

In the last Friday of every month, the Utsava Murti is taken on a procession in the outer Prakaram. Karthikai, Visakam asterisms and Shashti are special in this temple.
