Sri Seeraleswarar Temple

Sri Seeraleswarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is an ancient temple dating back to the Chola period. It lies on the banks of the Tirumalairajan River, a tributary of the Cauvery, at Mathur village near Nachiarkoil on the Kumbakonam-Tiruvarur road.

The deity is Sri Seeralar, also known as Seerala Parameswarar, and his consort is Sri Nithyakalyani. The 120 cm tall Shivlinga faces east. There is also a shrine for Navagraha. Near the temple is a Samadhi of Sri Swabodhananda Swami, a devout Saivite, who attained moksha here.
