Sri Puthankavu Bhagavathi Temple

Sri Puthankavu Bhagavathi Temple is situated at Elavoor in Ernakulam District. This temple was renowned for the traditional ritual of Thookkam in which a devotee is lifted to a height of 32 feet in a scaffold with his back pierced with two sharp metal hooks.

Today, the devotees arrange a symbolic substitution of Thookkam ritual known as Velpradakshinam in connection with the annual festival. During the festival, a large number of devotees from far and near throng the temple.
