Sri Prasanna Venkitachalapahty Temple

Sri Prasanna Venkitachalapahty Temple is located at Kumarapuram in Palakkad District. The temple is on the banks of Nila River. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Prasanna Venkatachalapathy (Lord Vishnu). The deity is seen with his consorts Alamelu and Mangalambal.

The rituals performed here are similar to that of Sri Venkateswara Temple at Tirupati. Belief is that the deity of this temple has the same powers like that of Lord Balaji at Tirupati. Other deities in this temple are Lord Ganesh and Dharmasasta (Lord Ayyappa). The temple is also said to have association with 'Kumaran', another name for Lord Muruga, as the village bears the name ‘Kumarapuram.’

Various annual functions are held every year at the temple. The main festival is celebrated during the Malayalam month Medam (April-May.) The ten-day festival starts with the Kodiyettam (flag hoisting) on the asterism Attam and concludes on the Thiruvonam asterism. On the final day, the rituals such as Kudhira Ottam and Chora Samvadham are conducted. Other festivals celebrated in grand manner are Navarathrri Ulsavam and Vaikunta Ekadashi.

One can approach the temple from Palakkad Bus Station. Kalpathy, Ambikapuram and Chokkanathapuram are nearby villages.
