Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple




Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple is situated on the banks of Shambhavi River at Bappanadu village near Mulki in Udupi District. The main deity of the temple is Goddess Sri Durgaparameshwari. The idol is in the form of linga (symbolic statue). Other deities worshipped are Lord Ganesh and Lord Narasimha. The main importance of the temple is that the Muslims can also enter into the temple premise and can accept the prasadas (blessings).

The temple was built to memorize the killing of the demon called Darigasura by the Goddess Durgaparameshwari. It is one of the main Shakti worship center in Karnataka. The temple is constructed in the 14th century architectural style.

Brahma Rathotsava is the annual festival celebrated in the temple. It is accompanied by the beating of the drum Bappanadu Dolu, which is kept in the side of the temple.
