Sri Bailur Mahishasuramardini Temple

Sri Bailur Mahishasuramardini Temple is a 13th century shrine situated just 2 km from Udupi, in Karnataka. The temple enshrines a 3 ft high idol of Goddess Mahishasuramardini made up of Balapa (a whitish pot-stone, used for writing on slate). The goddess is depicted in the posture of killing the demon Mahishasura by the edge of her Trishul (trident).
