Spitians




Spitian is a tribal community settled in the regions of Lahaul and Spiti District, Himachal Pradesh. They are believed to be an offshoot of the Samvegala community. They were migrated from Jammu and Kashmir.

Spitians use a distinct language, known as Swang, for communication. They follow a system of joint families. Professionally they are farmers, and consider themselves in the Shaiva sect of Hinduism.
