Sivakozhundeeswar Temple




Sivakozhundeeswar Temple is located at Tiruchattimutram in Thanjavur District. The temple deity is Lord Shiva in the form of Sivakozhundeeswar. Along with him is Goddess Periyanayagi. The temple spans an area of one acre including the Rajagopuram at the entrance. The Sthala Teertham is Soolateertham. Appar has sung pathigams praising the lord here. The temple holds inscriptions from the Chola period, which have immense historical significance. The main festivals are the annual Brahmotsavam in the Tamil month of Chittirai (April-May), Navratri and Rathasaptami. The temple can be approached from the Darasuram railway station which is 3 km away.
