Siva Temple at Thiruvidaimarudur




This Siva Temple is located at Thiruvidaimarudur, 6 km from Kumbakonam. The deity of the temple is also known as Marudavanar and Mahalingeswarar. The temple is built in the Dravidian style. The temple has three prakarams - Aswamedha pradakshina prakara, Kodumudi prakara, Pranava prakara. There are inscriptions in the temple which date back to about 1,200 years. The main festival is the Bhramotsavam held in the month of Vaikasi (mid May - mid June). There is also a shrine for Murugan in the northern part of the Siva temple.
