Padaladri Narasimhaswamy Temple, or Singaperumal Koil as it is popularly known, is located about 48 km south of
Chennai on the National Highway to
Chengalpattu. It is one of the famous
Narasimha temples in
Tamil Nadu.
This small temple located on a hillock. The hill where the temple is situated is red in color, hence the name ‘Padaladri’.
Singaperumal Koil enshrines a magnificent idol of Padaladri Narasimha. The lord's image has been carved out on the hillock itself and hence one has to complete a pradakshinam by going round the boulder. This is called Giri-valam in Tamil; ‘Giri’ means hill/mountain and ‘Valam’ is going round.
The annual Brahmotsavam held here is a major draw.
Devanathaswamy Temple situated just 3 km west of Padaladri Narasimhaswamy Temple, is worth visiting.
