Sim’s Park

Sim’s Park is a carefully planned and artistically laid park cum botanical garden, situated at Coonoor, in Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu. Established in 1874, the park was christened after J D Sim, who was its prime architect. It lies in a deep ravine at an elevation of 1,768 to 1,798 m and is built partly in Japanese style. The park, spread over 30 acres of land, exhibits over 1000 species of plants including ferns, pines, camellia and magnolia.

The rose garden in the park is home to over 330 varieties of roses; some of which are quite rare and eucalyptus more than 180 years old. The park also features many species of trees and shrubs, which do not thrive well in Ooty. The recently added boating facility offers boating facility for tourists.

Sim’s Park is also famous for hosting the annual Fruit Show organized by the Nilgiris Flower and Fruit Show Committee in May.

Situated on the road opposite to the Sim’s Park is the Pasteur Institute, renowned for its research in the study of rabies.
