Shri Mangesh Devasthan

Shri Mangesh Devasthan, located on a hillock at Priol in North Goa District, is one of the most prominent temples in Goa. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Shri Mangesh, also known as Mangireesh or Manguesh, is the main deity. With a lofty white tower, this 400-year-old temple has an air of distinct elegance. The main deity resides in the garbh-griha of this beautiful temple. Nandikeshvar, Gajana, Bhagavati and the Gramapurusha Deva Sharma of the Vatasa gotra are the other deities present. It is noted for its chiselled architecture and the distinctive 'Stambh' or lamp. The weekly festival is held on Monday. On this day the main idol is taken out, before the Aarti at night, in a procession accompanied by music. The annual festivals include Ramnavami, Akshaya Tritiya, Anant Vritotsava, Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali, Magha Poornima (Jatrotsav) and Mahashivaratri.
