Shri Mahavirji Fair

A popular Jain fair, Shri Mahavirji Fair is celebrated in the period between Chaitra Shukla Ekadasi and Baisakh Krishna Dwitiya (March-April). It is held at Shri Mahavirji Teerth, in Chandan Gaon, which is 176 km from Jaipur. This fair is held in commemoration of Mahavir, the 24th Jain Tirthankar.

During this fair, thousands of devotees gather here to worship and seek the blessings of the saint. Prakshalan - the ritual of washing the image of Mahavir - is performed in the morning. In the evening, ghee lamps are lit and a fire ritual named Aarti is performed. The offerings consist of dry fruits, flowers, rice, sandalwood and saffron.

The fair culminates with the Rath Yatra on the Baisakh Krishna Dwitiya. On this occasion, the site resounds with Bhajans and intermittent slogans of 'Shri Mahavir Swami-Ki-Jai'.
