Shri Mahalasa Narayani Temple




Shri Mahalasa Narayani Temple is a 16th century shrine located at Mardol in North Goa District of Goa.

This beautiful temple is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. The deity was originally from Verna and was later moved to Mardol. The goddess is worshipped in nine different forms in a day - Pratahkal as Adhishakti, Purvanha as Mahamaya, Madhyanha as Mulaprakruti, Aparanha as Ishwari, Sayamkal as Gandhadhwara, Pradosh as Duradarsha, Ratri as Nithyapushta, Madhya Ratri as Karishini and Apar Ratri as Shri Devi respectively.

Mythological reference of this temple is found in Skanda Purana. There is a seven storied lamp tower, known as a Deepstambh, located at the entrance of the temple. The pillars outside the temple are carved.

The images of various deities such as Shri Laxminarayana, Lord Ganesh, Shri Kal Bhairav, and Shri Bhagawati adorn the niches outside the temple.

Mardol Zatra, an annual fair, held in the month of February is a major draw. Besides, Mahashivaratri and Kojagiri Purnima are celebrated.
