Shilda

Shilda is 9 km from Gidhni in the Jhargram- Belpahari forest route of Midnapore District. There are ancient forts, and temples. Shilda Lake is the prominent attraction.

Bhairav Mela is conducted on every dasami, or tenth day of the Hindu calendar. Two types of tribal drums, Dhamasa and Maddal, are used in the mela. The drums are usually beaten in the evening and the people from adjoining areas arrive at Shilda. Folk goddess Ranakim is brought from Ghatshila, Bihar's border town, to join Bhairavs, the Hindu Shakta sanyasis devoted to Lord Shiva.
