Shami Kebabs are small round patties of spicy minced meat, cooked in the tandoor. Minced meat and dal (pulses) are marinated in spices and made into round flat patties, and then fried in oil. They can be served either as a starter or as an accompaniment to a main meal. These kebabs make excellent snacks and go well with spicy mint chutney, yogurt and freshly baked naan bread. For the nawabs of Awadh (Lucknow), a formal feast is considered incomplete without the inclusion of the irresistible Shami Kebab.
