Shalimar Garden

Shalimar Garden was built in 1616 by Emperor Jahangir for his wife Noorjahan. It is about 15 km away from Srinagar.

This garden can be reached by a tree-lined canal. It has four terraces, rising one above the other. The central black marble pavilion in the "Zenana" or ladies' garden is surrounded by water and looks out in four directions. The Garden blooms with innumerable varieties of flowers in spring and autumn.

From May to October on every evening, there is a sound and light show which describes Jahangir's court.
