Shaheed Minar

Shaheed Minar(165 ft), originally called the Ochterlony monument, was built in 1828 to honour Sir David Ochter Lony, who won the Nepal war of 1814. It is an important landmark in Kolkata, located at the northern end of the Maidan. In 1968 this minar was renamed Shaheed Minar (Martyr’s Column) in memory of the Indian freedom fighters. It is a mixture of Syrian, Egyptian and Turkish architectural style.
