Sawai Madhopur District




Sawai Madhopur District lies in the south-eastern region of Rajasthan. It is surrounded by Dausa District in the north, Kota and Bundi districts in the south, Bharatpur and Dhaulpur districts in the north-east, Tonk District in the west, and Jaipur District in the north-west. Sawai Madhopur covers a total area of 10,527 sq km, and has a population of over 1 million.

The Chakan River, Dheel, Kalisil River and Morel River flow through Sawai Madhopur. It has a dry climate except during the short rainy season. Major crops are paddy, jowar, bajra, maize, pulses, sesamum, groundnut, sugarcane, red chillies, wheat, and barley.

The prime attractions are Sawai Mansingh Wildlife Sanctuary, Ranthambhor Fort, Ranthambhor National Park, and the Ganesh Temple. The Delhi-Bombay broad-gauge railway lines pass through Sawai Madhopur, Gangapur and Hindaun towns of Sawai Madhopur District.
