Sarthal

Sarthal is situated about 18 km from Kishtwar, in Doda District of Jammu and Kashmir. Major point of attraction here is the Athra Buja Devi Temple in a cave. Legend is that Goddess Athara Bhuja came from Hari Parbat (Kashmir) through Singhpora pass and took rest in the cave where the temple is now situated. There is a popular belief that mother Sharika shifts during winter to this place. Thousands of devotees throng the temple during the fire dance or walking on fire held in July and August - a major celebration of the temple.

Sarthal can be accessed from Kishtwar, 70 km north-east of Doda. Jammu Tawi Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
