Sangli District




Sangli District is located in the western region of Maharashtra. Situated on the banks of river Krishna, it is well known for its cultural activities, educational facilities and its very own co-operative principles. With an area of 8,601 sq km, Sangli District has a population of over 2.2 million. Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation is one of the largest industrial estates in Sangli with facilities such as green house, health club, swimming pool and software training center. Sangli also has a number of engineering colleges and management institutes. It has a dry climate and the temperature varies from 12o C to 38o C. Sugarcane, jowar, groundnut and soyabean are the major food crops.

Ganesh temple of Sangli and Tasgaon, Darga of Khwaja Shamshoddin Mirasaheb at Miraj, Sagareshwar sanctuary, Dandoba hill station and Chandoli dam are the major tourist spots.
